New Book about Managing Anti-depressant Medications Taking Antidepressants: Your Comprehensive Guide to Starting, Staying On and Safely Quitting Michael D. Banov, M.D. (Sunrise River Press, 2010) Though it is full of detailed information about drugs and depression, Taking Antidepressants is a book that resonates with everyone, not just those with an extensive and positive experience with medication. Each section contains case studies of individuals with different attitudes about antidepressants, from someone who is trying to recapture a good experience they had with an antidepressant years ago to people with varying levels of mistrust about psychopharmacology. Questions like “Is this as good as it gets?,” “If they aren’t addictive, why do I feel so bad when I stop taking them?” and “What is going on in my head that is making me depressed?” frequently surface during treatment, yet sometimes patients feel afraid to ask their doctors, or find themselves unsatisfied with the answers when they do. The book’s clear explanations include multiple scenarios and different sides of contentious issues. On sensitive subjects like sexual dysfunction and weight gain, Taking Antidepressants arms readers with what the science says as well as what they might be able to do to improve their quality of life. Look for the excellent (and hilarious) illustrations of brain structure and a quiz about factors affecting successfully tapering off antidepressants.  (Article taken from October, 2010 NAMI Advocate) Upcoming Events NAMI Wyoming Walk Parity Toolkit for     Winning Disputes with your HealthPlan New Book about Managing Antidepressant Medications Advocacy Trainings Planned NAMI Wyoming State Conference Funding Report Wyoming
